Emotions and food

Having recently been in Melbourne to visit my dear mum who sadly suffers from dementia; the topic of emotions and our eating is front and centre for me.

Where better to process and learn from this, than here, with you all!

You have come to know me as a true exercise-lover and what was interesting on this trip was that I really didn’t feel up to my usual exercise routine. Usually when visiting Melbourne; or anywhere away from home; I head to the nearest gym as well as pounding the pavement with my regular brisk, long walks.

This time around however with freezing weather (good old Melbourne!) and the mixed emotions at seeing my Mum as she is not doing so well; I could only manage a feeble early morning walk and an even more feeble attempt at cardio… This activity lasted two days. Read more

Clean Eating review – Kitchen by Mike

Having heard about this canteen-style eatery in Sydney’s commercial-heavy suburb of Rosebery for months, it was time for Mum and Daughter to check it out!

On paper Kitchen by Mike ticked all of the boxes for clean eating in an enjoyable setting.

Just before the lunch rush on a sunny Thursday afternoon we stepped in to the minimal, yet warm and inviting space. What I did know for sure about this place was that the menu was unique each day. The food is planned according to what they find at the markets, put together by a former Executive Chef at Rockpool (one of my faves!) and as quoted on their website is about  “…seasonality, simplicity and freshness above all.”

Tick. Tick. Tick.

We took our place in the not-too-long lunch line, moving quickly and orderly, with none of it feeling rushed or pressured. The only anticipation we felt was to reach the counter, and the glorious food. Read more

Clean Eating Review – Bread & Circus

I love food.

About this point I am fairly sure none of you are surprised.

Sometimes I wish I did not love food quite so much though it is a part of me. I have learnt that denying parts of yourself is far more damaging than any perceived “fallout” could be so embrace it I have.

My family are a mix of Hungarian and German descent. I dare say this has a little bit to do with the above.

My strongest childhood memories are of being in the kitchen with my incredible Nanu (grandmother). Initially watching and eating and later assisting, cleaning up and yes still eating.

Each travel memory that I have from all over the world is inextricably linked to food as well.

When planning my next travels for August this year, restaurants and eateries are already being scoured and produce dreamt about. Read more
